I noticed that on the internet that montreal had a nice pedway system, and that here in chicago it is under-advertised and underdeveloped IMO. pretty certain if more people claimed residency close to the loop it would be expanded. thanks for all the responses.

kinda wonderin on why chicago doesnt advertise availablity or usage of the pedway more? security issues? or why its not even really that clearly marked by some entrances and exits. probably just not a priority in the city budget to mayor Rahmfather i imagine.

Just guessing, but pushing more people to take cabs, buses and trains is probably more lucrative than a concourse. Plus, as mentioned above, heavily used concourses and/or skywalks can diminish the street level of cities.

Houston has multiple underground systems. From the skyline district to the court house district and there are also some in the med center.

The court house tunnels are neat cause prisoners can be transported directly from jail to the court houses without being exposed to the public.

the skyline district has a maze of tunnels and skywalks.

At the medical center the tunnels were a god send when it rained.

Actually, there are some existing tunnels beneath downtown but they have closed them off years ago. They were once used as an underground steam tunnel network through out the downtown area. The only part of the old tunnel in use is the one that connects to the state house. The newer tunnel links both the convention center and Lucas Oil which is not part of old tunnels. The old tunnels have been walled up. This map is old as the skywalks and tunnel with dashed lines are now complete. (for now)
