The Boston Globe just did a nice article highlighting some of the major projects going on in Boston. They highlight 5 towers that will really enhance Boston's skyline and modernize it a bit.
As of right now, Millennium Tower, Four Seasons Tower and Avalon North Station are under construction.
Millennium Tower - 60 stories - 685 feet
Four Seasons Tower - 61 stories - 750 feet
Avalon North Station - 38 stories - 450 feet
One Congress - 46 stories - 480 feet * 51 stories - 520 feet
Copley Tower - 52 stories - 625 feet

And there's some speculation as to wether the author of that globe article really knows what he or she is talking about, because if the four seasons tower does end up reaching 750 feet, it would beat the prudential tower by a foot and become the city's second tallest tower.
While Chicago isn't experiencing the most construction, some of the construction it's receiving would count as "major" in most metros. These are a few major projects currently under construction (I left a few off the list).
150 N RIVERSIDE - The 742-foot tower will be completed in 2016
RIVER POINT Just next door to 150 N Riverside, River Point will stand directly over the confluence of the river, offering amazing views down all three river corridors. The 730-foot tower was designed by *****rd Chilton.
WOLF POINT WEST - 493 foot apartment building
OPTIMA CHICAGO II - The 587 foot tower will contain apartments and a hotel, along with significant retail space.
200 N MICHIGAN - 488-foot glass apartment tower and 2 floors of retail space
545 N MCCLURG - 486-foot tower
ABILITY INSTITUTE AT RIC - 480 feet
STATE AND CHESTNUT - 410-foot tower
BLOCK 37 APARTMENTS - 400-foot apartment tower built above the shopping center, featuring almost 700 units
Wolf Point South - 950+ feet (tower was redesigned and will more likely be taller than 950)
Wolf Point East - 750 feet (was also redesigned)
Lucas Star Wars Museum
Barack Obama Presidential Library and Museuem
While not proposed or anything yet, the former Chicago Spire site(with the huge hole in the ground already) is owned by Related Midwest, and they claim to have ambitious plans for that site. Just something to watch if you're into construction and/or development.

That's not going to be added to the January-June numbers. It would be for the second half of the year.

From the renderings, it seems like 750 including the mechanical suite is accurate. But of course renderings are only a part of the equation.
Another correction is the Government Center garage project will reach up to 600 feet with the decorative wrapping. The 510 is the highest occupied floor.

On a positive note, these projects are very important for our working poor in cities around the nation. As they gentrify, communities need to try to incorporate low income units into these major developments. Mixed income communities with market rate units are very successful and should be created wherever possible. DC also has a few mixed income redevelopment projects with market rate units coming down the pipeline associated with the Choice Neighborhood Program.
There are too many to list, but the Kenilworth-Parkside community is one I have been watching closely. It's important because the neighborhood is cut off from the city by I-295 to the south and Kenilworth Gardens National Park to the north.

But the Prudential Tower does have a spire that will push it over Four Seasons.
I was just in Boston this Tuesday, flying in to a low overcast those were the only 2 buildings visible before flying underneath the clouds, regardless Boston doesn't need super talls to make it one of the finest cities this country has to offer.

Very true. Boston is and always will be an "on the ground" city, no matter what is built. A little more height is nice though, just to break the current plateau that the skyline has going now. Plus you dont get opportunities like this (building boom) often, so you have to make the most of them.
