Ehhh, true I suppose Pennsylvania can claim the beach front of Lake Eerie. But if it came to comparing the gulf coast beaches of Mississippi to the Lake Eerie beaches of Pennsylvania, it's obvious who wins in that category.
I think Mississippi wins in weather also. Though the summers are pretty hot and sticky, you get used to 'em. Fall and spring are lovely, 60's and 70's throughout the whole season, Winter feels like fall in most other places. Temperatures are usually in the 40's throughout most of the winter, snow happens every once in awhile, but it is rare and never accumulates more than an inch or two.
Pennsylvania winters are rather harsh, frigid, and snowy. If you like that then you like that, but most people don't like the cold or the snow in large amounts.
Only a small portion of PA gets a lot of snow regularly. I live in the lower Susquehanna Valley and with the exception of an off year once in awhile we average about 30 inches of snow per winter. The lowest average high in winter is about 36 or 37 degrees. Hardly snowy, hardly frigid.
We lived outside Pittsburgh in a suburb for 14 years and have lived in North Mississippi in a Memphis suburb for the last 9 years.
I don't think quality of life can be measured in numbers by themselves. Each place has it own advantages and disadvantages. We enjoy the weather in N Mississippi much more - lots of sunny days and you do adapt to the heat and humidity. PA certainly offers more cultural and professional sports opportunities.
We have loved the people in both places. Pittsburgh has wonderful ethnic neighborhood that offers some great food and festivals.
Mississippi is a real have and have not state with many issues of generational poverty which affects the quality of life in many ways.
It is not where you live but rather what you make of life where you live!
