I was thinking about taking the family and going to one of these 2 cities for Thanksgiving. The prices are high so booking tickets now will spare us from rate hikes. Which city is better to vacation in? What can we do in these cities for fun? Which city has less ghettos and crime areas?

^^^But the Eagles play the Lions on Thanksgiving this year--the Falcons are off on Turkey Day. So you could go to Philly, ditch the family for the early 1230 pm game and go to a local bar, truly experience Philly lol, and be back in time for an early 4/430 pm meal and more football. Point, Philadelphia.
I guess I would go to the city that has more of your family there or at least a city with the best shopping. Thanksgiving is about spending time with family and of course the day after is about shopping. So pick whichever one fits that for you. Since I don't know you I'll refrain from voting in the poll since I have no idea what you prefer and my preference would be neither because I have no connection to those two cities.
Philly closer but Atlanta has better restaurants, nightlife, shopping, our climate will be warmer, you will get to see our trees turning different colors, etc
One more time, Thanksgiving football in Philadelphia. That is all.
They definitely always play in Detroit on thanksgiving
