Distinct, as in it goes practically peerless in it's offerings or combination of all offerings. As in it's a place that you have to go to experience something you cant anywhere else. A special place.

Here are some choices, while every city has something that makes it distinct, the best one will offer the most things to do or see that is not replicated anywhere else.

Quebec City
Montreal
Miami
New York
New Orleans
Mexico City
Los Angeles
San Francisco
Toronto
Washington
Boston
Philadelphia
Santa Fe

There I think this is a good sample size, and lots of different sorts of places at all size ranges. I'll leave off the Caribbean Islands and Central America, I don't think we can compare them anyhow.

Feel free to make your argument and reasoning for why you would pick where ever.

Quebec and NOLA

Have not really spent any time in Mexico City so is hard for me to judge

Also have not been to Santa Fe and would imagine it some unique aspects

It seems like every other woman in Montreal could double up their careers as a supermodel, I'm sure if Montreal's climate was more warm and a long beach was in the middle of the city, it would probably give Miami a very hard time.

I think that NYC and Mexico City deserve to be considered due to them being the Two Mega cities on our Continent. When you are in DF or NYC, you know it immediately. Even within Mexico itself, it is difficult to find many parallels between DF and the other major cities. Which is actually what I love about Mexico, culturally the place changes so dramatically between cities/regions.

Otherwise I agree with NOLA and QC. They offer a cultural experience that you can't really find anywhere else. QC is quintessentially Quebecois IMO. Montreal is special, but you feel like you are in N. America. QC does not give you that feeling at all, minus once you reach the suburbs.

Santa Fe, I have never been to, so cant comment. LA definitely deserves to be mentioned due to its size and cultural influence. Boston and Philly share too much in common with each other to be considered and Miami while being a place I dig and enjoyed living in, reminds me way too much of Panama City to view as unique.

So if I had a gun to my head and had to pick one, it would be NOLA. Basically everything is different about the place.

Right, I think everyone who's spent some time there would agree! I have 3 different friends who moved there and got married after touring through with their bands. Only 1 divorce so far, surprisingly! Very beautiful populace, great city, one of my favorites on the continent.

I vote for Santa Fe. In terms of architecture, setting, history, and arts culture, I don't feel there are many cities that can compare.
