Fine, but this is definately not a list of the most powerful cities or important cities if it includes Las Vegas and Barcelona on it. Just the most popular cities.

Yeah, but the point is, despite LA and SF being in the same state, they each have such powerful individual characteristcs, perceived by the entire world, they still BOTH rank among the world's top 10 as far as image.

I travel the world. LA and SF are both very well known everywhere.

Mexico City and New York City are the only two cities I have ever been to where I was sweating bullets because I was lost. I voted for those two and Toronto because our neighbors to the north need a little love. Thinking about it though, there are more people in California than Canada, and LA is a sprawling mass of a city like NYC and Mexico City so maybe it is those 3 instead.

I do too and I dont dispute that. LA and SF have very strong international recognition.

However, I would not place SF as one of the three most important cities in North American.

But that's just it. There is no clear number 3.

NY and LA are the undisputed number 1 and.2.

After that, no city really has a claim to 3rd that cant be torn apart by opponents.

Mexico City is usually not higher than Chicago or Toronto or SF on most rankings, but its still a megacitt and national capital of 100 Million people, but its national gdp is smaller than CA and TX, so it really that powerful?

DC is another one that is only relevant because of its status as national capital, but Mexico City is wayyyyy more influential culturally over Mexico than DC is over the US.

Chicago is who Im leaning with as number 3 because its the largest inland metro area in the United States, but there are some factors favor Toronto and SF.

If the Southern US had a clear cut first place, Id make it 3rd.

So, there's a lot to consider and Im not comfortable naming a 3rd at this time.

If we are talking about the Bay Area as a whole and not just San Francisco, I could see an argument for #3. But it would be a losing argument because there is no way you would convince me the Bay Area is more "tops" than the capital city of the (for now at least) most powerful country in the world.

And that Seoul is #5. I guess it's simply based on image, but it does seem strange that LA would be over NYC. I feel like New York is sort of in its own class globally with London & Paris when it comes to image.
