2. Largest most intact historic urban district in US (Over The Rhine)
Cincinnati: Worst 1. Takes for granted historic building stock as if it is something to be ashamed of when if properly exploited with a good mass transit system would make it head and shoulders above its peer cities in the region especially in tourism. Entrusting historic structures in rest of the city with past and current leadership for the past 15 years is like casting pearls before swine. Would rather have modern new structures and highways destroying old historic structures in the rest of the city because it rather be a new sun belt city. Frustrating to see Cincinnati demolish its potential for the future because the lack of visionaries in leadership positions at the City (Cranley), State (Kasich) and Federal (Chabot) level.
Lots of rocket scientists. NASA and the Army. Just about every major defense corporation represented here. Space Camp. Watercress capital. Craft beer capital of Alabama. Great antebellum historic district. Manufacturing includes Toyota, Remington, Polaris.
3000 acre Monte Sano Mountain State Park 10 minutes uphill from downtown. On the Tennessee River with lakes upstream (Guntersville) and downstream (Wheeler); two small rivers (Flint and Paint Rock) and numerous creeks nearby. Skyline and Bankhead wilderness areas about an hour away. Boating, canoeing, hiking, and camping opportunities abound.

Smyrna, Delaware
Best: Dirt cheap CoL, no taxes. Close to Philadelphia, Baltimore, D.C. and NYC, along with the Delaware beaches and Ocean City, Maryland. Good schools. Firefly is a huge, global music thing all of a sudden. Stress free lifestyle.
Worst: Outside of the mall and the casino, there ain't ***t to do here on a regular basis. Must drive EVERYWHERE. No regular airport in the state, must drive to Philly. Closing time is at 1 am. Job market sucks.
Sport: About as dominant as you can be in modern NFL Football.
Unrivaled place: Back Bay, Beacon Hill, North End. Faneuil Hall is fairly unique architecturally and functionally, but it's a bit too touristy and full of chain retail to be truly in a class of its own.
Worst:
Being "laid back."
Boston also over-regulates all things booze related. We should have a happy hour, and last call should be later. Grocery stores should sell booze.
Boston has among the worst NIMBY crowds of any major city making development tough (though it's gotten a lot better).
Not a great city to drive. Not something that bugs me, but it's definitely a problem for many.
For as big as Boston is it has a very blah downtown no stunning skyscrapers at all. and it seems poor marketing hurts it's image the city is not seen as progressive like it's peers.
I live here and New Englanders need to watch what they say about it. It's been hilarious the past 6 months on sports radio. First, the news about the cheating and then everybody whining about how the Pats are unfairly targeted. Then Tom Brady denies he knew and every Pats fan believed every word he said. Then it comes out he destroyed the cell phone and everybody seems to have shut up around here.
It's as if Pats fans finally couldn't defend themselves anymore. The Pats are a good team don't get me wrong. They play in a division where they have at least 4-6 guaranteed wins a year and it only took 10 years to cheat their way to barely winning another Super Bowl.
The Patriots last two titles (one over ten years ago) don't come without asterisks for cheating. Anything but a fair win in my book. Most controversial championships ive seen.
Best (or among the best):
- Ethnic Festivals
- Annual Music Festival (Summerfest - 11 days, 14 stages, 800+ acts, ~850,000 attendees)
- Home to Harley Davidson
- Best MLB Tailgating
- Strongest Dive Bar Presence
- County Parks System
Worst (or among the worst):
- Segregation Issues
- Construction/Condition of Roads
- Combination of Property/State Income/Sales Taxes
- Winter Severity and Overall Length of Season
Austin best: we really can put on a kick ass festival (multiple ones every year) right in the heart of the city. We totally have the logistics and safety (and fun!) angle down whether is is UT footballs games, F1, SXSW, ACL or a dozen other smaller ones.
Austin worst: we can't manage or slow down the growth in population in order to let infrastructure catch up, our success is strangling us and the cost of living (and hassle factor) is rising rapidly.
And then there is the heat, I've been waiting to walk the dog till after 9 pm for the past 10 days so the temps will drop below 100. But walking in the dark in 97-95 degrees isn't much fun either.
