Don't you think your Poll is biased? You give 3 options for Atlanta (Buckhead is practically a suburb in the city of Atlanta with 1 acre mansions and a few 30 story buildings sprinkled in )
How far away is Buckhead from the CBD?
I was watching the "Real Housewives of Atlanta" where Kenya Moore bought a house in Buckhead which was on a 2 lane road!
Really? Atlanta has a funny view of what is a "downtown" then!
Uptown Charlotte is "downtown" Charlotte they just describe it differently so I don't know how you can be "confused".
More like with a few 45 floor buildings .Most are in the 40 range and there are two parts of Buckhead. One commercial and the other residential.
Buckhead is a part of the city of Atlanta. The difference is that cities like Houston and Dallas are 4 times as large land area.Even Charlotte is bigger land area wise.Nashville ditto.
Miami is even smaller but more dense but much of it area is not the city pf Miami like South Beach which is another city.
so when people talk about living in Atlanta,no one specifies Downtown as anything bu living in the "city limits" versus living in suburbs.
Buckhead is also listed. Dallas should be able to count Knox-Henderson and Highland Park then.
I don't have a horse in this fight and I think Dallas holds up pretty well from my limited experiences...but...Buckhead and Midtown in Atlanta actually look and feel like a CBD which makes them different from Knox/Henderson etc.

You're right about Knox-Henderson. But the Park Cities (HP & UP) border Preston Center, which also has the feel of a CBD. The distance from DT Dallas to Preston Center is about the same as DT Atlanta to Buckhead (7 miles).
Regardless, this thread is about the Greatest Downtown in the South. I think CBDs like Buckhead and Preston Center shouldn't be included. Same with Uptown in Houston.
If Uptown Dallas was included as part of "Downtown," it would change a lot. Uptown is way more vibrant with more bars, restaurants, clubs, shops, and even recreational activities than Downtown. Add in Victory Park and you have even more options with American Airlines Center (NBA, NHL, concerts), bars/restaurants, and House of Blues. Technically, Uptown is part of Dallas's urban core. But this thread isn't focusing on the urban core as a whole, but rather arbitrary boundaries that define "Downtown."
