So a place doesn't live to hype and it's "hell on Earth???"

Yeah, if that's not trolling, it's some type of anger about Asheville that is irrational.

It's ok to not to like it.

However, if you spend some more time in Asheville it quickly becomes obvious that you're not getting a good value for your money. Sort of like those old commercials where the guy comes in expecting a nice steak dinner only to have the dish with two artsy bites and a high price tag placed in front of him.
Perhaps if you're limiting your time to just downtown, but there's more than enough in the larger area to make it worth your while IMO.

I guess I did. I'm being completely serious when I say I saw nothing worthwhile in Asheville.

Richmond easily.

Though, Asheville is a great weekend getaway. And I think downtown Asheville is quite nice.

The many urban neighborhoods that make up city center Richmond trump most of what Asheville has to offer, IMO.

Maybe PDF got confused and was vacationing in Asheboro? That comment about no mountains makes me wonder.

I would rather live in Asheville if I were wealthy and Richmond if I were looking for a nice city to raise a family.

Both are nice cities, but there is no contest in natural beauty/setting category. Asheville is tops in that one.

It depends if someone is looking for a smaller or medium-sized city. For a smaller city Asheville definitely punches above it's weight, but so does Richmond for a medium-sized city.

Richmond for me. I haven't been to Asheville but I know Richmond has more stuff to do plus it's closer to bigger cities in the northeast. I would love to explore Asheville someday!
