Thank you all for your replies. After reading all your responses I feel Atlanta Suburbs and Dallas suburbs are better choices than NC. Among these two, which one has a progressive mind set (in schools or in general) and better public universities for medical and engineering ?

Thanks

Alpharetta, which is not far from Johns Creek is the "Technology City of the South" and houses over 1/4 of all technology companies in the greater Atlanta area. Drive up to Alpharetta on GA-400 and you will notice all of the tech companies (Other large companies too). Even Mercedes North America is moving their HQ not far from the John's Creek / Alpharetta areas (They are moving to Sandy Springs, which is off of GA-400 too and is one of the largest employment centers in the state). Check Alpharetta out.

I have been able to quit jobs without having anything lined up and able to find a new job within a couple of weeks due to the amount of IT positions available in this area.

Georgia Tech in Atlanta is exceptional for engineering. Emory is another great higher educational asset in the area and I think has a lot of synergy with the CDC in the medical field, but it is a private institution.

I would tend to regard Atlanta and Raleigh-Durham as more "progressive" overall than Dallas-Fort Worth, but all are very well rounded metro areas. ATL and RDU also would be more similar to central New Jersey in terms of weather and landscape, if that is a preference.

Both are comparable but obviously your skills and negotiation style will be what's most important. There is a high demand for IT professionals in Atlanta so you can definitely use that to your advantage when negiotiating your salary. But you can use this as a scale Atlanta, Georgia City Salary, Average Salaries | PayScale.

Good to know that. thanks. I have a travelling job so at least for now I don't have to put that negotiating skill to test

Can anyone comment on the traffic situation in Dallas ? I haven't lived in Atlanta or Dallas but is it as bad as Atlanta? Which is the best city/town in Dallas to beat the traffic to all the IT business centers (e.g. Dallas, Plano, Irving, Richardson, Arlington etc)

Thanks
