Please take into account nightlife, outdoor recreational opportunities, cultural amenities (live theaters, museums, street music, music scene in general, etc.), proximity to beaches, and proximity to other cities where relevant.

Also, to stave off criticism - yes, a person can have a good time (at least in the short term) just about anywhere. What we want to know here is where is it EASIER to have a good time. So, for instance, if somebody said "NYC is more boring than L.A.," that doesn't mean NYC is totally boring, it just means it's EASIER to have a great time in L.A. than in New York.
Houston, Atlanta, and Dallas. Just to get out those out to way to save us the argument and whining later.

Though Dallas is kind of well, quiet to be such a huge city, there are things to do there. And there have been efforts to make the city more "fun". Same goes for Houston.
Atlanta has a "party town" reputation, but the party has died down quite a bit compared to what it used to be.
I should have read your criteria before voting, I went with houston but proximity to beaches would likely have swayed my vote to St Louis, unfortunately another dreadful downtown that started off wonderful from what I can tell, no offense to either because any place is only as boring as you make it, so i will blame myself
