Looking to possibly relocate TO Ohio FROM Florida (its usually the opposite I know lol). We have family in both states but much more in Ohio. Each place has its pros & cons. What is your opinion, which state would you prefer to raise a family in?

I'd caution against going what what *we* prefer. This is about you, and your specifics. None of us are in your unique situation. We may have different preferences from you which wouldn't apply.

FL and OH are obviously very different states. As one thought to chew on, which state is more similar to your roots and background? I.e. culturally, environmentally, etc. Are you more of a southern, summery, coastal type, or more of a colder, inland, northern type? That's just one aspect to think about, but maybe a good starting point.

Another area concerns jobs and your working field. Which state has more opportunities for your line of work?

IMO Ohio's better, as long as you don't mind the weather.

I'd do it. We lived in Florida with small kids and it was incomparably worse for families than anything we had experienced before (my wife is from Ohio) . Ohio and much of the Midwest is by its nature fairly family-oriented, with a stronger sense of community, better schools, a greater sense of rootedness, etc. Florida is essentially designed as a tax haven for wealthy retirees and as a tourist site. It's tax base is largely dependent on tourism and old people, neither of which care about public schools or even other public services. So there's not much incentive to create a normal economy and civil society that benefits families. Ohio, on the other hand, isn't going to get anywhere with wealthy retirees and tourists because the vast majority of retirees and tourists would rather be in Florida. So Ohio instead works to offer a strong, diverse economy, good schools, numerous colleges and universities, good parks, and an attractive destination for specifically young families.
