Absolutely. I was surprised to find multiple options for under 250k and 300k in DC city limits.

This is how you know Chicago is Midwestern at its core, despite having Alpha global city status

Beverly(far Southwest side)
https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/9.../4125890_zpid/

3 bdr and 1 bath
https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/1.../4146689_zpid/

Hyde Park (Southside near lake)

2 bd 2 ba Condo
https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/5...80854568_zpid/

Morgan Park (far Southwest)
4 bd 2 ba 2700 sq. ft
https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/2...21257258_zpid/

Bronzeville (Southside 2-4 miles from downtown)
4 bd 2 ba
https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/4.../3980705_zpid/

2 bd 2 ba Lofts
https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/5...65574656_zpid/

Suburbs

Orland Park (Southwest suburb)
https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/1.../4181335_zpid/

Flossmoor (south suburb)
4 bd 3 ba
https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/1.../4297054_zpid/

3bd 3 ba
https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/1.../4301344_zpid/

I know that at least some of it is still the effects of the market crash back in '07/08, considering the average or median house value in upper income southland suburbs such as Flossmoor and Orland Park were going for 300k+ over 10 years ago.

In the Twin Cities area, $250,000 is only going to get you crappy working-class homes in the outer-ring suburbs, a 50s rambler, a bungalow in an area with high crime, tiny condos, or dumpy fixer-uppers.

Minneapolis (Uptown, very trendy area)

Yeah, but it's the coveted Brimmer Street Garage. Didn't you read the article?

In Vancouver it would be the 10% down on your house. In the suburbs it would be your 20% down. You MIGHT get a 40 year old 400 sq foot bachelor apt 40 km from the city.
