This is really silly I know. but I found it fun to review and so did my fellow city geek cavsfan so I thought I'd share it on here for others.
Over the last month I posted on the "Where Would You Rather Live" thread but my city v city proposals were all created as a March Madness style 64 metro tournament. I took the 2018 MSA population rankings and seeded them #1-64 and then asked away. Given the randomness of whomever might happen to answer and what factors might matter to them, I really didn't think any matchup was more than a 2:1 favorite, and most were basically toss ups.
New York, Los Angeles, Dallas, Houston, Washington DC, San Francisco, and Seattle were the notable heavy hitters that all were eliminated in round one! As things took shape Chicago and Philly looked like they were on a collision course for the finals, until Philly was unceremoniously wiped out in the Elite Eight round by San Diego. Greenville, SC rode FSUMike all the way to the Elite Eight, where another poster finally swooped in before he could answer and picked VA Beach instead.
Also notes about our CD judges/participants (no one ever knew what was going on except cavsfan who intentionally did not participate):
The most frequent responder was march2, who selected in 15 of the 63 matchups. FSUMike and Shakeesha tied for second with 11 each. So the three of them answered nearly 60% of the total matchups.
Very cool experiment. Similar set-up to my "metro madness" tourney I did on here about a year ago but with a nice twist keeping everything a secret. I think I intentionally avoided many of your posts recently since I prefer to answer more obscure match-ups of lesser known cities myself.
I have a cool idea for a round 2 that I'll probably PM you about soon
Keep in mind that most of these results came from 3 forumers... I'm sure most wouldnt select Omaha over DC or Sacramento over Miami or Detroit over Denver. This is purely for fun.
Yeah I did kinda think Chicago or Philly would have the best shot at the beginning. They have a good balance of urbanity (which is the preference on these forums) and affordability, which seems to be a large factor in the CvC thread. But it really could have swung many different ways, this was not a consensus measurement by any stretch.
MarketStEl started questioning me towards the end, suggesting I was picking unfairly overmatched cities to go against Chicago.
Love this! Some cities tend to always win no matter what deficits they possess lol. Just when you think you are about to win Serena Williams smacks you back down in your place.
