Could this be due to the higher than normal degree of ethnic diversity within each race in these cities? White and black ethnics are relatively uncommon in the South so the only way to date someone not like you is to cross racial lines.
Degree of truth for the last part.
It’s true also that there isn’t as much black/white mixing in NYC as you would think. Like I said earlier, south of Philadelphia on down is where it picks up in the NE.
These couples are seen in the South, in more than ATL, Texas and FL cities. Nashville has already been mentioned.

I disagree with the south of Philadelphia comment. As mentioned before and with a couple of provided examples, you can find places in the Interior Northeast where said couples are around.
I think the problem with threads like this(and some others) is that they are very major city centric in perspective. So, that can end up leaving many other places out and this goes for some other threads as well.

Never said they weren’t around, outside that area. The interior NE probably mirrors what you find in small city areas throughout the Midwest. We’ve already established that there is quite a bit of black/white mixing going on there. More than you would find in big city Boston, for example.
I'll revisit this thread again and go off my own personal experiences.
The city where I've seen the most interracial couples of any city I've been to is San Antonio. There's even an inside joke in the Black community in Texas that you'll probably see more Black Men dating White Women and Hispanic Women than Black Women in San Antonio.
So If I had to rank based on my "limited" experiences.
1. San Antonio
2. Los Angeles
3. San Diego
4. Austin
5. Las Vegas
Cities like Houston and Atlanta while I do see interracial couples I don't think it's anywhere as prevalent as the cities I mentioned above. I mean while I lived in both it's not like I saw Black/White couples everyday going out. You go to a city like San Antonio or Austin and you'll see it EVERYDAY. DFW does seem to have more interracial dating than Atlanta and Houston imo. More so in the Northern burbs of Dallas.
A lot of small southern towns are probably not as much of a haven as people think either. I grew up in East Texas which is the most rural southern region of Texas. You had athletes and random guys doing you know what with White women but it wasn't really accepting socially like that either. Like you might do some things but you're more than likely to marry someone of the same ethnic group. Even though I've probably seen more interracial dating in Texas than any other part of the south. Florida might be an exception. And again usually I see the highest concentration of Black/White marriages and dating around military bases.

Agreed on some of your points accept for black/white mixing in San Diego and I question LA. For the West personally, probably LA, Seattle and Vegas had the most but nothing compared to back East including Texas.

I can go days in Houston and Dallas without seeing a Black/White interracial couple. I live in Houston and I probably see less Black/White interracial couples than I do in Dallas. And like I said when I'm in Dallas I tend to see more Black/White interracial couples in the Northern burbs. I can't speak on Seattle because I've never been there but the amount of Black/White couples I've seen in LA, Vegas, San Diego stood out a lot more to me unless we're comparing those cities to San Antonio or Austin. The further west in Texas you you're probably more likely to see Black/White couples. And I'm saying pretty much West of I-35 into Hill Country area. I even know a couple of guys back home who moved out West and married White Women (some with military ties and stayed on the naval base in San Diego). Something they wouldn't really take that serious back in East Texas.
But I don't know what it was in LA but I saw a lot of White guys with young Black Women or Bi-Racial women up and down LA. It's funny cause I'm use to seeing the Black male/White female dynamic a lot more but LA it was definitely the opposite.
Damn... come to think about it I haven't seen a mixed-race B/W couple out and about on the east coast in months. no lie, months. At least not that I can remember.

When I went to NY a couple of years ago I did see a couple of Black/White couples in Manhattan and Dumbo (could have been tourist). Weirdest thing though when I went to Philly, I didn't see a lot of Black and White couples but I saw a lot of Black and White mixed crowds eating out with one another. And I'm not just talking about a token Black or anything like that. As diverse as Houston is even you don't see mixed Black and White crowds just hanging out together like that.

I can believe it. Although if there was place where you’d most likely see it in the NE, Baltimore would be it.
I can also see how this mix would be black female/white male more in LA.

What do you think these couples so uncommon in Houston? I thought Houston would be one of the most accepting places for them. It also can't be segregation since most neighborhoods are pretty well integrated.
