There's a couple exceptions, like Honolulu. While not low, San Diego and Los Angeles lag slightly compared to CoL.

What's more interesting are the lowest CoL areas. While some, like McAllen and El Paso are at the bottom, most of the lowest CoL areas aren't in bottom 10 lowest average incomes (Though Memphis and Albuquerque are just outside). Cincinnati is slightly above the halfway point despite being one of the ten lowest CoL, and Birmingham is barely below halfway. Knoxville's not too far behind either. Oklahoma City, Tulsa and Buffalo are at about 3/4 down the list, still providing decent bang for the lower buck.

Larger metro. List makes sense and looks about right to me.

If going by metros above 5 million DC appears to be 1st and the only above 100k average. Although I guess Boston's pretty close to that 5mil mark now so soon could claim that.

One indication from this is that Philly and Chicago should rank near the top for quality of life, if you compare those average incomes with the COL and all the amenities offered.

Within counties it's also variable. Here in King County, WA it shows both Seattle and the county at about $117k. We have cities like Mercer Island at $261,000 and Sammamish at $181,000, but also in the county there is Tukwila at $63,000, and Morton, at $42,000.

Why shouldn't it? Have you seen rent costs in that town? LOL

It’s not true. I just did a quick search on popular apartment websites. Many 1BRs in Austin starting in the $1300 range.

I’m always confused when people on here talk about how expensive Austin. All it takes is a quick search and you can find nice apartments for $1300 or $1400 a month and these aren’t even studios, this is for a 1BR-1BA. Maybe Austin is expensive when compared to other Texas cities but compared to other US cities it’s super affordable.

“Connecticash” still showing up in a big way.

Crazy to think that, despite the growth, a city like St Louis is still higher than Atlanta or Phoenix.
