I'm trying to imagine Phoenix with a Riverwalk.
My favorite part about San Antonio outside of the tourist area of downtown for those that know the city well is "The Rim" 1604/I-10 intersection. Best Tex-Mex food I've ever had anywhere in the country was there. The Pallodium was massive, it was just a great area to be around.
A few days ago, on the weather station here it said Phoenix was 311 degrees. Now who can tolerate that?!
first of all, everyone would be dead if that were the temperature. second of all, I have sentimental feelings for Phoenix and the whole southwest (AZ.NM) 3rd, I just like Phoenix more. I don't care if it doesn't have a riverwalk and I certainly don't care if it's 110 degrees. That's what A/C is for!

No, seriously the weather station said 311 for Phoenix on the national map and no one knew why. It was hilarious.
based on experience, i think phoenix is better as a metro but San Antonio is better as a city. That's why my vote goes to San Antonio. It has a better and more active downtown atmosphere, thus makes it easier to get a grasp of the feel of the city and its history, but outside the city, Phoenix beats San Antonio on that!
