Overall: North Carolina

I've lived in both Arkansas and North Carolina. NC is superior so much its not even a contest. Arkansas for one lacks any real cities. It is a beautiful state though especially in the Ouachita mountains in the western part of the state. Plenty of outdoor recreation in the state and Little Rock has its own charm. I think its overall an underrated state. However, anything rural Arkansas has, North Carolina also has and then some. The Ouachita's may be beautiful, but they don't hold a candle to the Blue Ridge Mountains. Add that to the up and coming urban areas in NC as well as the beaches (which Arkansas doesn't have) and its pretty clear what state is superior.

North Carolina is one of my favorite states.

Northwest Arkansas is not only a very pretty area and great if you like the outdoors, but very affluent and nicely developed. The worst thing about AR is that it's so remote and not near much nor is it easy to travel to/from there with the lack of air connections and even interstates.

Arkansas gets a very bad rap and it definitely has its hillbilly parts, but not all parts of the state are alike. Little Rock is quite different than most people imagine it to be and if it wasn't in Arkansas it would probably be a more popular place given its nearby outdoor recreation. I am sure I will get bashed for stating this but you can't blanket an entire state with a stereotype.

North Carolina is still superior though, in every way.

Little Rock is a neat little city. Quite vibrant and active.

Parts (like I said, northwest AR is quite nice and affluent) of rural Arkansas are like what people imagine, but the more urban places in AR remind me more of places like Colorado Springs or Boise than some hillbilly/redneck place that most people imagine.

IMO, NC handily wins this. But to AR's credit, Little Rock is a nice city with some notable assets like a heritage trolley system, the Clinton Presidential Library, and President Clinton Avenue, named one of the "Great Places of America" by the American Planning Association in 2009. It also has a nice setting along the Arkansas River and has some history associated with it, most notably the integration of Central High School. Northwest Arkansas is like a mini-Triangle/Austin, and Eureka Springs seems like a mini-Asheville.

I wish there was more to Arkansas than there is, but I don't care for condescending terms like "superior/inferior".

When i think of the worst state of the USA, i think of Arkansas.
Even the name, like they had Kansas and thought let's put Ar in front of it and make the last S sound like a W.
Why not write it like ARKANSAW?

You obviously don't know much about U.S. states.

Actually it was originally spelled "Arkansaw" when it was still a territory. And AR's statehood precedes KS's.

Arkansas is probably the most beautiful underrated state in the nation.
