It all depends on what the person is interested in seeing. If they want U.S. History than Philadelphia, DC, NYC and Boston would top the list. If they want a fantasy land that doesn't represent America very well than L.A. and San Francisco are the places to be. I think only Visiting places like NYC and LA are a bad idea and give a rather unrealistic picture of America/Americans but to each their own.

Don't get it twisted LA and SF are not similar in that aspect. SF represents america just fine and surely is not a fantasy land. You must be from the east coast with a strong dislike of the west.

I agree. I want to visit Houston myself, but I would not put it in my top 5 cities to recommend to a foreigner

My top five was

1. NYC
2. LA
3. Chicago
4. SF
5. DC

I would recommend Boston, Philly, Miami and Vegas before Houston

Vegas? Yes, Vegas!

Name a city in the world that is like it?

Vegas would be a experience for a foreigner

I'm not understanding why people are picking DC. It's nothing special....I'd replace it with New Orleans or Las Vegas.
