It all depends on what the person is interested in seeing. If they want U.S. History than Philadelphia, DC, NYC and Boston would top the list. If they want a fantasy land that doesn't represent America very well than L.A. and San Francisco are the places to be. I think only Visiting places like NYC and LA are a bad idea and give a rather unrealistic picture of America/Americans but to each their own.

Don't get it twisted LA and SF are not similar in that aspect. SF represents america just fine and surely is not a fantasy land. You must be from the east coast with a strong dislike of the west.
