But other than that, no major expansion planned.

No other city in north America comes as close to being like Manhattan/NYC than Toronto. Perhaps there is some jealousy coming from L.A. since Toronto has been so successful at eating Hollywood's lunch.
What have you talking about? Have you forgotten about Chicago? Chicago's skyline blows Toronto's out of the water.

LA's skyline is far more impressive than people give it credit for and an easy match for Toronto.

Toronto is a wannabe American city. Montreal FTW anyway.

Rational poster: "Interesting. Los Angeles is clearly the larger, denser metropolitan area."

Irrational poster: "LA is a big suburb, I don't care about facts and stuff. You guys don't have a subway. It doesn't feel right. Toronto is more urban. I'm scared of cars!"
LA's metro is way bigger than 7.5 million. It's more like 13-21 million depending on how you define it.

I was referring to a connected 750 square mile area in the Southland that maintains a 10,000 psm average. That would be 7.5 million people obviously.

Greater Los Angeles is home to 18 million people. It's the 12th largest metropolitan area in the world.

I remember Chicago. Closer to a tie for tall building more than anything, with Chicago being a bit 'taller' but Toronto having more high-rises overall. When it comes to city vibrancy, nightlife, etc. Toronto is beating Chicago these days.

Here's a list - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...rise_buildings

The main point? As far as high rises go: NYC = 5,924 / Toronto = 1,868 / Chicago = 1,125 / Los Angeles = 504

I think the point is obvious by now. L.A. is a pathetically under-developed city considering its population, Toronto is the opposite.

This doesn't take into account Los Angeles packs a crazy amount of mid-rise (4-10) story development into traditional city core, from downtown to Hollywood, down Wilshire all the way to Westwood and Palms. Just because when you see LA has a relatively small skyline, that does not mean it is underdeveloped; it means it had a height restriction.

I've never been to Toronto so I'm not going to dispute which city is more urban, but to say Los Angeles is pathetically under-developed is as dumb as saying it has no major transit expansion coming up .

PS I should do myself a favor and visit Toronto, those pics posted today are awesome!

Someone that thinks lack of high-rises = underdeveloped, isn't worth explaining anything to.

That's not what I think. I'm well aware of the fact that L.A. is overcrowded, resulting in world-famous traffic and smog. L.A. is also underdeveloped, those transit lines that will connect the city that everyone talks about, they don't exist yet. The lack of high-rises and the inferior transit system make L.A. a less-impressive 'city' as compared to Toronto.

Funny thing about the infamous traffic--L.A.'s commute times are still shorter than places like NY and Chicago, even with their super fast public transport that literally beams you to your work station in 5 minutes. Strange.

You go from saying L.A is small and pathetic in one post to saying it's overcrowded the next. Seriously, you can stop now.
