They are practically the same to me. But I'll choose Austin because I hate winter, and driving in northern cities in general. Besides, Austin seems to develop faster, with more retail options and entertaining coming along. It seems to have the potential and is willing to become a larger city.

I would normally agree, with one exception
if you compare the number of fortune 1000 companies, Columbus beats em. hands down, 11-4
Austin is not the city that many big companies put a headquarter there, but lots of high-tech companies have branch/R &D departments there. In term of job opportunites, they are not so different from the headquarters.
