Exactly. We even came to their defense and in return were insulted and barraged with meaningless and slanted stats.

and they got a mountain slung back at them.
And there's plenty more where that came from. Although I'd rather end this on a positive note.

And Philly has been untouched by the recession? Also, we will compare 2009 stats...when we GET them. Last I checked, it's not 2010 yet.
Yeah, bragging about less pain is stupid. As if theyre thriving--no one is right now.

Also, He is unaware that 2007 is the latest data available--usually it comes out in December and even then it will be for 2008.

Its so difficult to deal with statistical amateurs. Difficult but oh so fun.

Perhaps because its not refutable. The Bay Area has far more Wealthy and Upwardly Mobile Minorities that Philadelphia. Period.

Combined Statistical Area/ Total Gross Product($150B+)

Philadelphia-Camden-Vineland, PA-NJ-DE-MD $330.0 Billion

You can't. Its a fact. The Bay Area has a significantly larger GDP. Period.

Oh, but that's not all...refute this:

Adults Age 25+with a Bachelor or Graduate Degree

And what about this?

2007 Nest Egg Index-Cities with the most savings
In the third annual Nest Egg Index, we ranked the 500 top-performing communities based on their residents' personal savings and investing behavior. By measuring a dozen statistical factors - including participation in retirement savings plans, personal debt levels and home ownership - the Nest Egg Index shows the geographic regions where people are succeeding and facing difficulty with their nest eggs. In this year's results, communities that ranked highly in the Nest Egg Index continue to benefit from strong local housing markets and show a high propensity toward saving and investing in retirement vehicles such as 401(k) or pension plans. And while these communities had higher costs of living than the national average, nineteen out of the top 20 also had lower debt levels.

You accuse of us stargazing? Hell at least we know how to save money..No Philly on this list.

Also, in relation to our stargazing, one more thing your didnt really REFUTE:

I mean, really.

Rainrock presented the economic stats of each metro county which are almost identical as far as median household income is concerned( a very slim edge to Bay Area).Furthermore Real estate values that are almost 50% higher in the Bay Area whom The Bay Area enthusiasts surprisingly view as a good thing, almost a badge of honor.Unaware that with Cost of Living added in SF is near the bottom of the metro ranking in terms of spending power.
In other words, people are willing to more to live in some places and not willing to pay that in others.

Makes perfect sense to me.

Quote:
Finally Rainrock tried explaining that Census designated criteria is extremely flawed.
Its not flawed because the same rules apply to everywhere. You cannot refute that one bit.

Quote:
I could be wrong but I think I read where someone bragged that the Bay Area allegedly sprawls 240 miles from N to S, yet these same people have a tough time grasping the inadequacies of Trenton not being part of Phillys MSA. Trenton is 15 miles from the NE city limits of Philadelphia and 400 feet from Morrisville Bucks County a Philadelphia MSA stalwart.
The same rules apply to all places and in this case, the numbers don't add up.

So you wan't to bend the rules to suit your personal opinion?

Its like groundhog day.3 weeks of this robot pasting the same exact stats.Unbelievable.

Let the record show that Montclairs statistical watershed spans an admitted hundred + miles and Philadelphias apparently spans 15 miles to the Delaware River.

I dont care what the census bureau says. Common Sense tells me that:

Philadelphia /Trenton(15 mi)unquestionably more interconnected than Sf/Sj(50mi) or Napa/SJ(100 mi).

Allentown/Montgomery County(15 mi) more interconnected than Napa/SJ(100 miles apart).

The cmsa census stats are dysfunctional.

The msa stats are a more on-the level.

The MSA stats Philadephia vs SF-oak-Fremont give you are more honest assessment of the 2 areas.

In effect the data Montclair has been circulating is 2 seperate metros SF/Oak + SJ/santa Clara
against 1 metro. Hence the disparity in the statistical results.

doesn't this say it all? How can anybody take you seriously after that?
It is like arguing with a brick wall. Have you ever taken a college level statistics class? Or better yet, a logic class (usually taught out of math/philosophy dept.)
I think you are the most hard headed homer poster I have ever seen on this board, at least when it comes to defending your home town.
Pitts you had some good stuff earlier on... I would avoid siding with rainrock like an aids needle.

Perhaps I am being hypocritical responding to this, but -- so long as this thread is open -- I feel the need to step in and help set the record straight without the use of insults and being as objective as possible to combat misinformation. The truth is, no city/metro area has been unaffected by this recession, and -- if anything -- Philadelphia is weathering the storm slightly better.

Unemployment Rates as of July 2009

From the latest Bureau of Labor Statistics news release:

San Francisco-Oakland-Fremont MSA: 10.5% (4.5% year-over-year increase)

Philadelphia-Camden-Wilmington MSA: 8.8% (3.2% year-over-year increase)

The facts speak for themselves.
Thank you for helping to get the thread...BACK ON TRACK!

To me this is the heart of the forum, Exchanging information, experiences and opinions. And yes some debating and humor...I thought ransoming The Liberty Bell was funny...but it went over like a lead balloon.

So let's ALL help educate each other and cut the crap!...LOL
