There is a song recently released by a rap artist named Jay-Z that I am sure most have heard. After listening to the lyrics of the song especially by Alicia Keys, I thought to myself……..Can any other city in the United States be used to replace New York City for the lyrics of this song to be believable, have the same emotion and have the same realism to listeners? Nominate your city and discuss! YouTube - Jay-Z - Empire State of Mind (feat Alicia Keys) - 'The Blueprint 3' 2009 *HIGH QUALITY*

I specifically meant the lyrics to this song with emphasis on the chorus that states..... In New York, Concrete jungle where dreams are made of, Theres nothing you can’t do, Now you’re in New York, these streets will make you feel brand new, big lights will inspire you, lets here it for New York, New York, New York

Philadelphia would be the one that could fit the closest. But of course no other city in America can compete with NYC. But Philadelphia is the one that shares the most similarities.

Personally, I would think Chicago or LA, but thats just me. Even in my opinion those two cities do not sound right or have the same impact that NYC would have.

The culture is just not the same in the cities you mentioned. You are not going to see "Dominicanos" hangin in the streets of those cities. Philadelphia is the only city that could flow with those lyrics.

I agree with that 100%. I never thought of it like the way that you mentioned.
