Oh, come on, post some comparable photos and we'll discuss them. Those two photos are not comparable - the W-S one is not nearly as complimentary as the Birmingham one.

Downtown Birmingham is small...it's definitely not any larger than W-S.

It was my intention to find photos for each city that included as much of the skyline as possible and that were taken from a similar distance from the CBD, not to find one that was "less complimentary" for Winston-Salem. Here are some other you might use for the sake of comparison, but the fact is that Winston-Salem's skyline is noticeably less dense than Birmingham's:

Whatever the case, the skyline is noticeably less dense than this

Another similar angle/distance of comparison:

The areas designated as their downtowns may cover the same amount of area (and I'm not even sure that they do), but Birmingham's is definitely denser.

Default Little Rock's Skyline

Here are some more photos of Little Rock's skyline. Yes, Little Rock's SMSA approaches a million people and I believe its skyline shows off its muscles!

Actually, Little Rock's 40 story Metropolitan Tower is taller than any of the skysrapers in neighboring Memphis. Several 15 - 20 story buildings have been added over the past 5 years to Little Rock's River Market District in Downtown which is not shown in these outdated pictures in this survey. Little Rock has two other "city centers" in its Midtown and the Financial Parkway. Interstate 630 (Wilbur D. Mills Freeway) connects the Downtown at the Eastern end to Midtown to Financial Center Parkway on the western end.

Birmingham is much more dense than Little Rock and bigger. Im in Little Rock right now they have one building that is taller but that's about it. Its easy to think that the buildings downtown Birmingham aren't that tall probably because driving thru on the freeway its really close to the buildings and the freeway is elevated. I know a lot of these cities have elevated higways but none of them are so close almost a stones throw to the buildings. these are some better pics hope have a better perspective on it
