So because a town has sprawl, you take away its worth as a city? How is that justified?
I believe when one is living in a perpetual parking lot from one end of the city to the other, it's kind of hard to get out and enjoy the amenities that the city has to offer. But this is just my humble opinion, of course.

I would say if the sprawl results in nothing but gridlock (it usually does) then the city has insufficient transportation infrastructure. IMO you can't have a world class city without transportation options other than the automobile. That's one of the major reasons I didn't/wouldn't select Houston.

Actually there is public transportation in Houston and several walking communities within the metro. Both are under development to make them better, but they do exist.
