What cities in the US have most of the aspects that make a city great. Great people, great food, culture, activities, landmarks, parks, walkable neighborhoods, etc etc. We all know that no city in the US meets each and every criteria but which do you consider the closest. A city that you can truly call "World-Class".
BEFORE ANYONE VOTES, I ADVISE THAT THEY KNOW WHAT THEY'RE TALKING ABOUT:
1. Don't vote for a city you haven't been to
2. Don't dismiss a city in your post if you (a) haven't been to it or (b) do not
fully understand the meaning of the term "world-class".
Lol, I know that these are not the rules and everyone is entitled to their opinion, but this is the only way to make this poll work.
NY, Chicago, Boston, Houston
San Fran, Seattle, possibly Portland.... wow- I cant really think of any in the midwest other than Chicago
Exactly! I would NOT include Portland--but I voted exactly as you did. Plus, you have to add Washington DC.
The rest of 'em, even big ol' Dallas, are just not glitzy, minted 'world class.' That's not a judgement on those cities. In fact, given my list I'd say that it's better to not be world class than to, in fact, be world class. But it's just a certain spark that tells you a town is world class and places like Denver, Pittsburgh, Tuscon, Austin just are not there yet--not, IMHO, will they ever really be.
I think Las Vegas is world class. Anybody that's been there in the last two years, with the mammoth amount of high rise condo construction, as well as the never-ending expansion of strip hotels, knows what I'm talking about. The Wynn, Belagio, Venetian, Palazzo... it never ends! Before somebody who says "I've been to Vegas... back in '78..." responds to me disputing that... even the Las Vegas of ten years ago would be unrecognizable today. We are witnessing the creation of the Manhattan of the desert, right before our eyes... built on the bedrock of greed and sin. But hey, what's wrong with that... that's our world!

Me too. I put Phoenix and Vegas in the 'world class' category. Phoenix is maybe a stretch but Las Vegas--despite being quite small--is absolutely a world class city in every sense of the word--every bit as much as Boston or Chicago can be.

New York, San Francisco, Chicago, Boston, Washington, DC
See, this is the mess I'm talking about. How in the world did San Francisco get more votes than Los Angeles?
