I don't know what the rest of you are looking at, but Charlotte's skyline is pretty damn impressive and a very fair comparison to Atlanta. But again, this thread is not about Midtown or Buckhead. We're discussing Uptown Charlotte vs. DOWNTOWN Atlanta.
In fact, for the sake of this thread, let's pretend Midtown and Buckhead don't even exist.
Now you Atlantans behave, or I'm gonna sick the New Yorkers on you and let them rub in your face what a "real" skyline looks like.

Who isn't behaving? It seems like a pretty tame discussion, especially considering the topic.
again anybody who has been to these cities...not a question, atl easily...
but since we are going with internet pictures, lets see how really lackluster charlotte is and how pictures can show both sides of the story...

charlotte isn't impressive whatsoever to me. who the hell is charlotte impressing? somebody who has never left north carolina???
atl is a good triple the city charlotte is, charlotte is more comparable to jacksonville florida
Charlotte's skyline impresses lots of people, some who come from cities far larger than Charlotte. Our skyline may not impress you, and that's fine, but what cannot be denied is how far it has come within a relatively short period of time. Given our size, I think our skyline is more than fitting; it's certainly better than some of our peer cities'. Here are some more up-to-date aerials, as I have no clue why you're using such outdated shots:
We've still got too many surface lots Uptown (as that last shot shows), but we're working at eliminating them with midrises, park space, etc. So we're a work in progress. We've also got a 30-story tower that's close to topping out (1 Bank of America Center) and a 19-story and a 17-story that broke ground a few weeks ago but have yet to go vertical.
And don't think that everyone voting for Charlotte has never been to either city before. People like some skylines over others for a variety of reasons. Some people like Chicago's skyline over Manhattan's, even though you might say Manhattan kills Chicago. It is what it is. That's why I included a poll.
Driving up I-85 or I-77 or I-277 through Charlotte, the skyline looks VERY impressive. I could really see the skyline densifying and getting only larger within the next 20 years. The B of A Tower is one of the prettier skyscrapers to me, and one of Cesar Pelli's best projects. YMMV though.
Rome wasn't built in a day, and neither was Charlotte. 30 years ago, Miami, Houston, Dallas, and Atlanta's skylines weren't much to look at either.

My thoughts exactly. Also, the view from the HOV lane on I-77 from north of Uptown is sweet.
My favorite view of the Atl is on I-20 from the West side just as you climb that big hill. That is Atl's money shot if you ask me. You can also see a similar view from the Pilot truckstop on the westside as well. Ironically, the best views of both cities are from two Pilot truckstops in "da hood" lol!
