Not really. It's high compared to last year, when SF had it's lowest murder rate since 1961, but SF has actually averaged about 8 or 9 murders a month in recent years before '09. I remember for example, in August 2007 there were 21 murders, and there were 10+ in the previous and following month too. So it's at about the average murder rate in 2007 and 2008...not high and not low. Of course the murder rate was higher in the 70's through the mid 90's...then it dropped in the late 90's and the early 2000's then rose back up until dropping over 50% in 2009 (2009: 47 murders, 5.8/100,000 residents, 2008: 99 murders, 12.4/100k).
San Francisco - 9
Oakland - 7
Richmond - 7
Hayward - 5
San Jose - 2
I know there has been a couple of murders at least in Vallejo so far to start this year. It seems like crime is on the rise in many Bay Area cities. Vallejo has had a horrible start to the new year crime wise and Richmond, well Richmond is on the way to being named the number one most dangerous city next year if they keep this up.
I think we are tied with Oakland, or one ahead now
Is it a competition or something? That is not something for Albuquerque to be proud of. Anyways by the time the year ends Oakland will have a lot more murders than ABQ, no doubt about it.

no, its not a competition, I was actually waiting for someone to say that, but Oakland is known for its murders, Im just saying that ABQ is actually ahead, its surprising, and I have no doubt that Oakland will have more murders, I could bet my life on that one.
