To think the highest murder rated city in the US is only hours from the highest murder rated city in the world. Makes me think about where Im currently residing... Texas... To the south... Juarez, Mexico, and to the east... New Orleans, Louisiana... So far its not that bad here...

As of January 17th, NYC had 14 murders, and Brooklyn had 3 murders. I somehow doubt that Brooklyn racked up 31 additional homicides in just 8 days, especially taking NYC's continuous and impressive crime drop into account.

South Jamaica, NY (pop. 60,000) has had 2 murders so far in 2010 (according to the NYPD)

New York City (pop. 8,300,000) as a whole has had 14 murders so far (according to the NYPD).

Just look at the significant population differences between the two, one neighborhood that makes up 0.7% of NYC's population contributes 14% of its homicides. NYC overall is a very safe city but it has its bad spots, I hope the NYPD goes full force in areas that actually need it. Luckily I'll be up out of this piece soon.

I'd just like to add that NYC (overall) homicide-wise is where it was in 2009 however rapes jumped 40%, everything else is pretty much the same.

You're not counting the triple homicide in Brooklyn?

^Those are NYPD numbers from January 17th...a quick google search says that the triple homicide was on the 22nd though, which is why it's not listed.

So Brooklyn is at 6 at least by now. As of the 24th, NYC is at 25 murders, up from 24 at the same time in 2009.
