I guess. Nightlife is but one factor to having a real vibrant active 24 hour downtown. Residents is the key. Everything else will fall into place. Nightlife cannot sustain a active downtown by itself. That's why many people say Houston squandered the momentum on main street after the 2004 superbowl.

I do find the nightlife in Miami a bit, shall we say, overrated, BUT I've been to South Beach and other parts of South Florida too many times and DT Houston enough to know that the two don't compare, and I'm not going to let such a lie go so easily. Again, I'm not denying Houston's nightlife, but they're not comparable.

I agree. Downtown Miami's nightlife is a bit dull. But South Beach blows anything in Texas out of the water. Notice what South Beach has as well lining up and down the coast and I'm not talking about the beach.

Absolutely. Miami Beach has an extraordinary entertainment scene...and downtown Miami leaves a lot to be desired.

Have you even been to South Beach to make such a judgement?
Miami was built around tourism and entertainment strips. Not too many places around the country can compete with Miami.

Right, if the OP was arguing DT Miami vs DT Houston, then he may have a case. There has been a move to have larger clubs over in DT Miami. Club Space was the first 24-hour club to have a liquor license in DT Miami. But SoBe vs. anything in Houston? No dice.

But there are other parts of South Florida, such as Ft. Lauderdale, Hollywood (the area around the Hard Rock Casino) and parts of West Palm (Clematis St/CityPlace) that have pretty active nightlife as well.

While celebs and fashionistas still flock to South Beach, this isn't the 1990's anymore either. The club scene is a lot more accessible than it used to be in many instances.

The OP is comparing all of Houston nightlife to Downtown only Downtown Dallas, Atlanta, Miami, and Phoenix.

Personally I think Dallas' nightlife blows Houston out of the water. But thats my preference because I like Raves/Techno clubs and Dallas is undeniably better in that department. If I had the slightest interest in hip-hop, Im sure I would think differently. For what I like, only Miami and LA are better than Dallas of the sunbelt cities.

For Texas Dallas and then Austin seem to have the best reputations for night life for straights and gays. I am new to Texas and have asked around about Houston and I always hear bad remarks. I would like to spend time there though.

Well I never been to Houston but using those videos as evidence looks pretty boring and bad. Is the sherman williams a cool place to hang out? Downtown Miami has a large night club scene one that keeps going until 3-5am. Also near by downtown you have Coconut Grove with its large bar scene. Also there are now lounges and clubs on Brickell ave and even some in the middle of Downtown these are new and with the growing population of residential downtown Miami it will continue to grow. Also Downtown Miami is home to one of the most famous clubs in the world Club Space - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Now South Beach is on a whole other level and I would imagine the OP did not mean Miami Beach when he said Miami. Because South Beach is IMO one of the top 10 maybe even 5 night life spots in the world and it is very urban.

FWIW, I've heard good and bad about Houston nightlife.

I remember hearing about the Richmond Strip looooooooooooooooooooong ago. Did I say that it was looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong ago? LOL. Well, 1990's wasn't that long ago, was it?

Then there was the scene in DT Houston that started happening in the early 2000s.

Washington Blvd/Midtown is where a lot of nightlife is now, correct?
