I love both cities!
DC is just too expensive, winters too long and way too political though when compared to Dallas and I'd say there are a lot more rough areas close to nice areas in the DC area. I would still live there though but I do prefer Dallas as a place to live and I am a single young male not a young couple with kids and I manage to have a great time here. Theres always something going on.

I think its unfair that Dallas is painted as a boring place if youre young and single. I guess those people dont spend enough time Uptown or on Lower Greenville.

Its not the most exciting city in the US, but it certainly isnt boring.

Dallas also has the best Raves and rave culture in the Southern States except Miami. The raves here are some of the best in the country.

Yea I got a friend from the NOLA lives in Uptown Dallas and love it. DFW is a lot more than what people give it credit for. DFW is getting ready to hit 7 million residents sometime in the next decade and offer more amenities than most metros in my opinion.

Thank you all for your input. Keep it coming! You've all given me a lot to think about. I am leaning towards the DC area right now, but I'm never one to rule anything out.

You may want to prioritize what the most important factors are in making your decision.

Exactly. I'd have to say it would have to be a extremely well-paying job that would give me the edge to moving to DC. The C-O-L issue is way too much of an issue for me personally. I know I could make it work, but it's too nagging for me at this point in time. For example, I'd have to have roommates again if I wanted to live anywhere within the District or in some of the closer-in suburbs.

OTOH, If I had a wife and kids in this point in life, it would be either stay here in Atlanta or go to DFW if I had the right offer.

Yes, I do have a lot to think about. I sort of moved up here to Atlanta sort of half-cocked (I moved up here to go to grad school), and I don't want to make a major decision like that without better planning next time.

I know if I were to move to DC, I'd probably live in the Maryland 'burbs close to a Metro station. I have a friend who lives right around the corner from the Largo Town Center station in a reasonably-priced apartment (for the DC area at least).

COL is high, but so are salaries/incomes overall. It's true that people tend to be more stressed out and work longer hours to earn those salaries. That's the price you'll pay depending on how and where you want to live.
