I would choose Arizona in a heartbeat. I hate cold weather with a passion!

I am reading this thread laughing seeing how I am sitting by my pool in SE Minnesota with over 90 degree sweltering heat and humidity and it's 8:45 and still sunny out.

And you can't have this in AZ:

nor do you have this in the center of a major city:

Both cities have their pros and cons. Choosing MN's cold and AZ's heat is like choosing the lesser of two evils. Some prefer the cold, some prefer the heat. I love the desert, but only for a short time, it grows old real fast, IMO. But when Im in AZ, I adore it (minus the cities), its really a beautiful place. MN offers a lot, too. My only problem with MN is the extended cold winters and mosquitos. Id prefer MPLS over PHX, but AZ over MN, just slightly.

Can I choose Minnesota from June to August, and then Arizona the rest of the time?

Just pure ignorance.

It gets cold here, but only in the winter months. It gets cold just about everywhere during Nov. Dec. Jan. Feb. It just happens to get a little colder here during those months.

Summers are actually really hot and humid.

I like that MN has four distinct seasons. The biggest fluctuations in temps come from Feb-Mar, May-June, Aug-Sep, Nov-Dec. Ironically those are when the seasons change. (DEC, JAN, FEB):Winter, (MAR, APR, MAY): Spring, (JUN, JUL, AUG): Summer, and (SEP, OCT, NOV): Fall.

You can truley feel and see the season change in a matter of a couple days. Each of the seasons are completely different too. Summer is hot/humid, sun rise at 5 am and sets at 9pm, green trees for just about exacltly 3 months, Spring is cold/rainy, but when it is nice, it's really nice! and everything is growing, and it's like that for exactly 3 months, Fall all the leaves are changing, the weather is usually the best-no rain and clear skies, fresh crisp air for just about exactly 3 months. Then, death comes. Winter, cold, with frozen snow, sun rise at 7 am and set at 4 pm.

I live in Michigan, and obvioulsly our climate is pretty much the same as yours. We also have the same stereotypes about our state as you do yours. Ive never been asked if I live in an Igloo, but Ive been asked if we have summers, or if the snow ever completly melts. Ive been asked if there are icebergs on Lake Michigan. THat one is my favorite. Most of those stupid questions come from people in the southwest, and south central states. Its amazing what people dont know when it comes to the geography of thier own country. If people knew how nice Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan were there would alot more people out here. I like going down to Lake Michigan on a nice day in August, chop a hole in da ice and jump right in eh. lol lol

Funny story: Today, the high in Phoenix was a comfy 81 degrees, whereas Minneapolis soared to a sweltering 95. In fact, if I read correctly, MSP was the hottest major metro in the US for May 24, 2010.

Explain that one to me?

I think Minneapolis just has larger extremes than most cities. 95F certainly shouldn't be typical though.

During yesterday's NBA game in Phoenix they announced it was 75F at 5PM [couldn't get any better even if it is quite uncommon]. Probably as unsually cool in Arizona as it is hot in Minnesota lately.
