New Orleans is probably the Southern city most similar to Baltimore.

But having lived near both....I'd have to say that Baltimore has all the bad of New Orleans without any of the good. Baltimore has good seafood, but New Orleans has much better seafood including better crabs.....

New Orleans lacks Baltimore's advantages which puts it in a worse position IMO. Due to its East Coast location and having the nation's capital just a couple miles to the south, Baltimore has superior infrastructure, a better economy, is located in one of the most affluent states in the country, and is much less prone to hurricanes. Those advantages mean that Baltimore's chances of overall improvement are substantially greater than New Orleans'.

Baltimore wins with a big reason for that being its location within the Bos-Wash corridor. It would be in a hell of a lot worse shape than it already is if it weren't for its location, which includes its proximity to other East Coast cities--and yes, that includes DC.

It's not a vacation for one, and a lot of folks in the Baltimore area are similarly affected.

You're only looking at it one way.

A very small percentage of the Baltimore area is affected. It's really a non issue here as it is in most cities. Social security is taking a hit though.

I know that people from the DC would have you believe that the Baltimore area is sitting at home too, but that isn't the case.
