I'm working on a magazine article about moving with kids and the importance of saying goodbye to your old community before you move and introducing your family to your new community after you move.
The article lists simple ways to do this. I'm looking for a couple of real life anecdotes from parents (or adults who moved as kids) who skipped the goodbyes/ introductions because they felt too overwhelmed to throw a full scale goodbye party/ housewarming.
I can't pay for your quote, but if you're interested in helping to get an article like this published, I'd really appreciate hearing your story. If you did share, I'd like to use first names and where you moved to and/or from.
Don't know if this counts but when my kids were little 5 and 2 we moved from the US to the Panama Canal Zone. While we lived there I noticed it wasn't the kids who had a hard time adjusting but the parents. Some hated being there their whole 2 years and couldn't wait to go back to the states. Amazingly they were the same ones who after leaving wanted to return to CZ.
I use to tell new people 'Look for all the good things here because the bad things so up soon enough' If all you do is focus on the bad you can never be happy no matter where you are..
Your kids are fortunate to have a parent with a great attitude. When you moved to CZ did you do anything to say goodbye to your old community? How did you help your kids make friends in CZ? Did you do anything to say goodbye to CZ?
Thanks,
DeAnn
