Hi Everyone,
I just have a question. My sister and mom are going to Cleveland Clinic for a few days. My sister does not want to drive that far so she won't feel weak so she was thinking about staying in hotels downtown. However, we just wondering if it was safe. Also, she is looking for an area with lots of foods options. Would she be better off in suburbs like lakewood, or westlake hotels or staying in Downtown Cleveland. Is it a lot like Detroit where even though improving everything in convienence is in the suburbs

Hi steph,

Downtown Cleveland is safe. It's the area immediately around the Clinic than can get rougher.

I would recommend staying either Downtown (best prices for quality):

1) Hyatt Arcade
2) Holiday Inn Express
3) Radisson Hotel

Or University Circle:

1) Glidden House

Hilton Garden Inn Downtown usually has good rates as well.

Oh, also try the Residence Inn Downtown.

For food, all the downtown hotels are by E.4th St, which has a ton of Independent restaurants including Iron Chef Michael Symon's place...so good food there.

Also by the clinic is the neighborhood of Little Italy that has 10-12 Italian places, plus nearby L'Albatros, which IMO may be the best restaurant in Cleveland... Or it least a top 5. Not that expensive either.

Two things.

Call the Cleveland Clinic and ask them if they have special rates with a particular property. There is an Intercontinental Hotel onsite as well as the Cleveland Clinic Guesthouse.

If you go to their website, they have an EXTENSIVE 60 page "visitors guide" that will answer all of your questions as well as give you ideas on parking discounts.

The hospital has a concierge who can answer all questions for out of towners at 216-636-1288 and is available 9-5 M-F.

Cleveland Clinic Hospital and Stay Information: Health and Surgery Centers, Regional Hospitals, Patient Billing

Personally, when hospitals offer local accommodations, that is where I stay rather than heading downtown or a distance away.

Hi Everyone,
Thanks for the responses. So it sounds like downtown would be best are there in grab and go places in these areas. I am not sure if they are looking for sit down restaurants but they all sound great

Why not one of the (three?) hotels on the Cleveland Clinic campus?

I think those are all pretty pricey.

In regards to grab-and-go places, there are a few of those downtown, like pizza places, sub places, Chipotle, etc., and also the Tower City food court.

The hotels are pretty pricey and I not sure if there is nothing around them. My sister has certain stomach issues and needs to be around quick grab and go or chain food places. Thanks again for all the help
