We just moved to the Chardon area, and in anticipation of Thanksgiving and a lot of family visiting, I went liquor shopping for all of the favorites of various family members. In IL I paid $29 for a bottle of Bombay gin, at Giant Eagle it was $47!! Wines are almost double what they were in IL. can anyone suggest a good beverage supply with better prices? or do I need to drive out of state? are PA prices any better?
any experience/advice is appreciated. thanks

Try going up to Mentor. There are several options on Mentor Avenue: Mentor Beverage, World Wines and Liquor, and Mentor Discount Beverage.

Ohio has a state liquor monopoly. Liquor prices are controlled and I think generally are the same everywhere in the state. The Giant Eagle liquor store actually is state controlled.

Reportedly, among the cheapest places to buy wine is Costco. However, I think (am not certain) that Ohio sets minimum prices for both beer and wine.

Liquor prices likely are much cheaper in PA, but perhaps post on the Pittsburgh forum for some idea of the difference. Probably Erie is the easiest visit from Chardon (check out Presque Isle State Park, a National Natural Landmark).

Many Clevelanders make shopping treks to Grove City Premium Outlets because PA has no sales tax on clothing or footwear. Erie also has several shopping options.

There are great wineries in the Grand River Valley around Madison and Geneva. Definitely buy some ice wine from the area. See Lake Erie wineries in this travel article.
