Yeah, even if cost of living weren't a factor, I'd prefer Cleveland as a whole package over Chicago based on personal preferences (location, topography/MetroParks, traffic, sense of community, even historic charm, etc.) Boston I'm not sure (close in, I believe the MetroParks/CVNP still win, but being able to day trip to the Maine Coast or White Mountains would be nice) but there are so many things that go into or count against a city being "great" for me that I don't think it'd be significantly better either. Obviously, cost is a factor, and for what both cities offer, unless I was attending Harvard or MIT or in a higher up job there, Cleveland offers a much better ROI at least IMO. One other factor not mentioned, though other things do go into this, Cleveland generally has a milder winter and summer, temperature-wise, than Chicago or Boston.

Edit: at another glance, Cleveland and Boston, and even Chicago's climates all appear relatively similar, but hey, who's counting?

My other problem is, geez, does she have to cuss like a friggin' sailor? My God... I'm no prude by any stretch but this chick comes off as being super street hard (and she's the mom of a young child, no less). Is she the prototypical Chicago girl?... Oh well.
In Chicago, even many 80-year-old women cuss like sailors.

Shaughnessy is a tool. He's also a lazy sportswriter. If the overarching theme of your article is 'confetti-gate' and that downtown Cleveland sucks because the Starbucks closest to your hotel wasn't open on Sunday, the Globe should begin to wonder how you spent their money on Saturday night. I guess he was too pie-eyed to notice the other one 1000' away that opens at 7am.
