Since the Clayton Bypass will soon be signed as I-42 with US-70 being put back on it's old alignment through Clayton, NCDOT is wanting to decommission NC-42 between NC-50 and the Clayton Bypass and resign it as NC-36 in order to avoid local confusion with I-42. The rest of NC-42 will remain, effectively creating a gap in it's overall length.

NCDOT awarded a contract to repave a 10-mile section of US-64 in Nash County between exits 453 & 463. Shoulder reconstruction is mentioned, but not specified if they will be widened to interstate standards.

NCDOT is holding a public meeting on Oct. 12 to discuss the upcoming numbering changes.

Courtesy of an accident involving a garbage truck this morning (11/30/2023) the DOT will have to add repair of the pedestrian overpass bridge to their list of projects on US Highway 70 in the James City area of New Bern....

AASHTO just posted the minutes of their fall meeting. In preparation for the Clayton Bypass being signed as I-42, they approved NCDOT's request to move US-70 off the bypass and back onto it's original alignment through Clayton. The current US-70 Business designation through Clayton will be eliminated.
