Publix has also announced its fourth Myrtle Beach, South Carolina area store. Stores in Fayetteville, Goldsboro, Greenville, Jacksonville, Kinston and Wilmington should not be far behind.

I am yet to see a site plan for River Place Shopping Center, the new retail center that will include Publix. With the official announcement made, I wonder if this is underway.

Is there any chance demolition of the former Super China Buffet and adjacent structures can occur later this year?

I just wish someone would come to their senses and put it somewhere else.

I think Publix is making a good move to reuse a site and infill in a developed area.

I agree...infill is good. Redevelop in the interior. From what I can see, New Bern will have a free standing Publix next to the Zaxby's location. What was there before was immaterial.

I havent seen a scale yet of these Publix but I noticed the other day regarding an announcement of a Harris Teeter in Carolina Beach that HT stores are like 5,000 square feet bigger than what is rumored Publix is planning on building. That is surprising to me...they are building smaller stores near existing larger HT stores.

My initial thought is "Is Publix planning a store in Carolina Beach?" My other thought is Publix can offer the necessities in less square footage that Harris Teeter has.

I certainly applaud the use of an existing site over cutting down a bunch of trees.

I am not looking forward to driving through that part of New Bern, which unfortunately is a multi-times, most day requirement.

We will see.

They have now cleared the land, or at least the Chinese restaurant. Maybe it's me, but it seems like a pretty small footprint.

It appears the HT across the street is simply packing it in. Longer lines than ever, lots of restocking during crowded shopping times, more and more out of stock items. Frustrating. Seems they have given up.

LLN I have heard from someone who works there that employees have quit in droves because of horrible mis-management.Not sure if it is accurate but this person still is employed there.
