While I understand your fear, and this post may be a little late, I have lived in this area for three years. As an Asian/East Asian, I have not had any problems here, and while the Asian population overall is minuscule compared to say, the RTP area, what you get in exchange is a friendlier, small-town appeal. My neighbors here are wonderful, friendly, and they don’t care if I don’t go to the same church as they do. A few of them are former residents from the Northeast, or a generation removed. I bought a house here, and this area is great for starting a business. I get along with everyone here because I believe and practice the golden rule, do unto others. I was born/raised/educated in the U.S., my family served this country during a time of deep discrimination within the military, and thanks to their sacrifices, I refuse to live in fear because I am brown! Really, what kind of life is that to lead? It’s not the color of your skin that makes others hate you. It’s acting like a lowlife, and they come in all colors/shapes/sizes. Beyond that, I have found folks here to be quite friendly, and no more shy than folks in other cities when you first meet them. It’s more out of curiosity than anything.
