Yes, if you are in way south Brunswick County (Sunset Beach, Calabash, Carolina Shores) McLeod Suncoast Hospital in Little River, SC (really N. Myrtle Beach) is closer than Novant. Once you get up to Ocean Isle Beach or Shallotte, Novant is closer.

We have some family that lives in Wilmington and have been a few times and thought about retiring there as well.We are looking for a cost of living comparable to where we are in Va or lower. Wilmington is close to the same or a little higher. I like it there, but I don't think I love it. I am used to being near several larger cities and it is nice to be able to travel from one city right into the next one and have lots of options of things to do. We are beach/boat lovers and that is high on our priority list. I haven't gotten to Sunset Beach and Holden area yet, but I keep hearing those are great places. My biggest concern is if I will find it too isolated there. Outside of Wilmington there are no bigger cities unless you travel to Raleigh. Other than the beach and boating I have not found a lot of other things to do. However, I have met others that have retired there and they love it. Good luck on your journey.
