So my job is in Morehead city and checking out the map for housing and there are not much to choose from! We are looking at 260k or less for a 10 yr old and newer. We looked everywhere and even expanded it to newport. Just nothing. So now we are looking at Peletier area (18 miles away from work) and new bern (very south new bern station house rd neighborhood, 25 miles away) ..i just can not decide which area would be suitable for us? My wife says Peletier is too far away from all the amenties and new bern is so far away from the beaches! ...but what are you guys opinions on both areas? And why is it so hard to find a house that fits our needs in morehead and newport

It is so hard to find a house in your price range because the area is very desirable, and your budget is very low. Appreciation has been very good in this area, and $260K for a newer house is very low. I suggest lowering your expectations about finding a new house.

I agree with your wife that Peletier is too far away.

It is not that hard to find houses in Newport below your price range. Lots of them are manufactured homes or small ranches. What about this place? It has only been on the market one day: https://www.realtor.com/realestatean...-38050?view=qv

It is slightly older than 10 years, as it was built in 2006, but it has new HVAC and an updated kitchen. It is fenced, well kept and pretty. It is less than 9 miles to the center of Morehead City.

I am not sure why the OP is having trouble finding a house in Newport in his price range. There's also this one: https://www.realtor.com/realestatean...-13431?view=qv

The OP may not know about this site, but they could search Military By Owner for NC and Cherry Point MCAS: https://www.militarybyowner.com/nc/c...s/?pricesale=4

It turns up a house across the street from one on Realtor at 114 Wild Oak in Newport, plus one in Havelock and two in New Bern. They may be a bit older, but they are well under the OP's price range.
