Went to Duck in April a few years back and had a great time. Rented an 8 bedroom house through Twiddy.com for around $1,500. If you go to Duck, check out the Four Seasons neighborhood. The development has an indoor pool and recreation center, outdoor tennis courts, playground, and is within a short walk to all the quaint shops in downtown Duck. Kitty Hawk is a short 10 mintute drive if you want to catch a movie, play mini golf, or do some shopping. Jockeys Ridge State Park is also a good time. Our kids loved jumping off the sand dunes.

Been to Ocracoke too. It's beautiful but there isn't much to do there. Definatley worth a trip without kids. It would be pretty dead in April.

If you would like to forego housekeeping ,have a pool and a great childrens play area try the Beacon Motor Lodge. A step back to "motel" days, this place has a fabulous set up for a family with a 7 year old and it's close to everything. It is in Nags Head. We have been staying there for years and I love the friendly staff, the updated rooms (we stay in an efficiency with 2 queen beds) and the best patio that is ON the beach. Check it out unless you really want a house. I would still suggest Nags Head - all the kid friendly activities are close. Have a blast!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would definitely go to Corolla...I have been vacationing with my two boys, seven and four, for the last couple of years and plan to re-rent the house we rented last Aug. It was GREAT!! It was a quick walk to the ocean on a pebble pathway and there is a waterway in the back...which was terrific for the boys because we could look out from the screened porch and watch turtles and a deer ( the kids even named the deer!). The house was really nice inside, well taken care of, and had everything we could have wanted. There were bicycles too, and close to shopping and stores. I would highly reccomend "Popcorn and Rootbeer"...we've rented other homes in past years and have been disappointed because things were broken or not as advertised but not this house. We plan to make this our annual vacation house!!
