Has anyone been? Is it worth the trip from Raleigh? If nothing else the coast has to be great this time of year...and we are hoping the seafood is just as fabulous...
ever had a gator-on-a-stick? It's usually a good time. Last year, when i was still living in N.VA. I made the 5 hour trip from there. I'm living in Goldsboro now, but couldn't make it b/c I had to work today. The kids sure made sure they made it to their grandparents house so that they could go, though.
We had a great time. Morehead City is wonderful...We even stopped by Atlantic Beach for a swim. There was every kind of seafood and then some. We thought it was well worth the trip from Raleigh..
i'm out here now picking up my daughter. my father-in-law works the festival every year. she was out here with him riding on all the rides. the prices are already coming down. i saw one of the carneys givng tickets away to some little kids. still, my fav time is always saturday night, due to the firework show over the sound. the reflections off the water is beautiful. plus, it's like two shows for one!
Most of my neighbors went yesterday or today. I am crowd averse do I do not go, but if I went to one festival, based on feedback, it would be the seafood festival.
Wow. Considering this is is the 2nd largest festival in NC, I'm surprised it didn't get much interest on the board here. There was supposedly record breaking attendance this year, as well.

Well, locals probably don't find much to say about it (it's just another part of their lives) while the tourists are all from out of town.
If you like festivals and fairs-Then the Seafood Festival is ideal. The tone and tenor of the festival has changed since it began. For example-carnival rides were not allowed at first but now are part of the main attraction.
The last time I went (about 4 years ago) what had me most distressed were the large signs such as, "Get Your Maryland Crabs Here".
Huh-It's the North Carolina Seafood Festival!
And to add to it, irony. North Carolina produces twice as many crabs as maryland & the Chesapeake Bay area combined. About 10 years ago I was standing on the loading dock of the Washington (NC) Crab company watching trucks from Maryland load up with NC Crabs.
Oh yeah-Guess what one of the most popular food items was at that years Seafood Festival?
Turkey Legs. I kid you not.
