I dno't get why NEB. is a protected rivalry with PENN ST.?
those 2 teams don't have a rivalry do they?
I think IOWA and NEB will be big b/c Lincoln isn't far away from IOWA and both those states have just college sports.
I think the big ten needed a marquee rivalry for both PSU and Neb. Iowa will have the proximity but not national cache that the PSU/Neb will carry. I believe this will become extremely bitter and entrenched quickly. While Iowa has been good lately and most definately has had their way with PSU lately, Iowa in todays media frenzied environment is a step down from PSU and Neb on a national scale. So to me with the OSU/MU game this place the other two marquee programs in the national spotlight and is good for the Big ten overall
Remember both PSU and Neb are top ten TV draws nationally

good point above.
Mich St's protected rivalry is Ind, that makes no sense, Iowa's is Purdue which also makes no sense. In the end it's all about money I guess. Neb and Iowa would make the fans happy but I guess there'd be less ratings. Oh well.
what I'd reallylike to see is dropping 2 of the 4 non-conf. games, they are set to play 3 intra-division games, 8 in the big ten total, so as many as before, but have forsaken many geographical rivalries.

Big Ten and media just trying to hype things up. Penn St I think, is the only team in the conference without a true rival.

This to me might be the most fitting, however is Nebraska show shades of the past then it could become rivals with OSU or Michigan for Big Ten top dog.
Iowa will be for sure. I have close ties with both fanbases, being a Nebraska fan myself and having grown up in (western) Iowa. All my friends who are Iowa fans are already excited about it, as am I. The Big 10 putting it on the last week of the season will drive it as well.

So from the Nebraska fan perspective, Big Ten a good or bad thing?

There actually is a rivalry apparently, I heard about it on ESPN or somewhere.....Unfortunately I can't remember what the rivalry was all about, but I bet it has something to do with the fact that Penn St. was an Independent team before it joined the Big Ten, and maybe they played Nebraska a lot like Notre Dame plays Michigan and USC a lot?

Pretty close - the 95 year was probably the toughest and they didn't play each other
Historically for PSA as an independant Notre Dame, Pitt, Miami, WVU, BC and Syracuse were probably their biggest rivals who they basically played every year

Nebraska fans are glad they are in the Big Ten. The few that don't like it will be happy in a couple years when the rest of the Big 12 teams are looking for a new home.
