We always enjoyed watching University of Washington Women's softball games on TV until they made her the announcer. As soon as her voice is heard on any program my wife says "Not her!" and I have to change it. I think it's just the sound of her voice, sort of like nails on a blackboard to some of us.

I can't think of any announcer in my lifetime that'll make me shut off a highly anticipated game in the span of two minutes like Mowins will. If she put in her time, great, she still sucks.

I'm inclined to believe that she's a token hire for ESPN (which is as woke a network as there is). Rather than hire a woman to call a game who talks like a man with a hard and masculine delivery, just hire a guy. (Come to think, the guys don't come off as hard as she does).

My gripe is that play-by-play should be out of the way of the game and somewhat pedestrian. Expert observations and explanations of the action is better taken from color-commentators (who're usually ex-players/coaches). Her delivery borders on "overcompensating" by trying to sound hard and it's a distraction. Plus, the tone and timbre of her voice on a football game is just grating.

I just pray to god that she doesn't call anymore PAC12 games, g*dammit.

Wow...Is it really like that?

Keep in mind that she has been doing games on ESPN for 27 years. so, that way before people heard the word "woke".

She's been at ESPN for at least 15 years and probably longer. She was hired way before anyone knew what "woke" meant outside of being woken up from a nap! As I said, if you don't like her put the game on mute. She's been calling games with ex-NFL player Kirk Morrison for like 6 years now! Certainly, he must think she's doing a good job otherwise he'd have a different play-by-play person or gone to a different network.

I think Keith Jackson's legacy is safe.

I'm sorry but I'd rather listen to Beth Mowins on an endless loop for all of eternity than listen to Petros Papadakis for one minute. Nothing against the guy as a commentator but his voice is easily the most unpleasant voice in the history of broadcast television.

And with Mowins, I also cut her some slack because in her younger days she wasn't bad looking and her passion for sports and her knowledge is a lot better than your typical sideline Bimbo chick.

I just watched the Sun Devils play the Dawgs. You're right, Petro P. sucks - he might be good calling a celebrity boxing match or *Pro's vs Joe's* - but at least I wasn't compelled to turn the game off within 2 minutes like I do with B.M.

Brock Huard with Joe Davis is the best. They can even make a crummy game worth watching.

What are the networks thinking ??? Mowins is the worst announcer this side of that lame Vitale and that old goat Rafferty ! Besides having a voice that is highly annoying, she is also hard to look at, even at ”closing time”. Stick to softball and golf if you must, and stop ruining football and basketball broadcast for us sports fans.

FWIW my grandfather when watching Cleveland Browns games back in the day use to mute the TV and listen to the radio instead while watching on the tv. He couldn't stand tv announcers. Radio broadcasters do a far better job regardless of gender than any TV announcer (except Keith Jackson)

Turned on the ARMY Bowl game, late, because I doing loads of work....in case you did not hear. it seems that everyone at the agency except for myself went on vacation, or quit......some ofboth I am the only one keeping the place running so I am not getting to see as many games as I want

Anyway, They have another dykey sounding reporter on there I thought maybe it was a guy with a higher voice, but no, another female announcer who sounds, like a guy.
Sounds Off now.
