This year Minnesota opens a new 50,000 seat football stadium, just like Stanford did a few years ago.
The motivation was the same: both schools play in metro areas (Twin Cities, Bay Area) where the NFL plays as well in a sports mix where they are only one part. The programs are similar in that respect.
Question is though: do you like the concept of a new 50,000 seat stadium? Is there something more intimate, more able to give everybody a reasonable view, something kind of Wrigley/Fenway about them?
And if you've seen the U of M pictures, who do you think did a better job: Minnesota or Stanford?
Is there some kind of issue with the Gophers building a 50,000 seat stadium? Do you think it should be bigger? I can not imagine they would need anything bigger considering their attendence numbers over the past forever.

not all all. it is a perfect size stadium for the program; again...as good of a fit as Stanford got by building a 50,000 seater inside the footprint of an older one that exceeded 80,000

From the photos what I've seen of it I like it, not too big, not too small. Looks one of the better stadiums out there.
It'll be nice for the team not to have to share it with two other organizations, esp. in September. It also should improve recruiting.
the Twinkdome literally killed Gopher football ever since they went inside. what the heck were they thinking...playing on a field with the Twins and Vikings with a canvas overhead.
Can't get more collegiate than that, can you?
