When everyone has a bachelors degree, a masters degree is one way to stand out. I went back to school twice for graduate school, and after each program I was able to take on much more interesting positions with MUCH higher salaries than I had before.

Another angle I read about is lots of unemployment puts people into a position to seek higher education while they are unemployed.

A lot of people are going for Masters degrees with no work experience now.

Not sure it is going to pay off for them.

The big money is coming up with a degree that's beyond a PhD/MD... I guarantee college/universities already have a curriculum planned when the B.S. / B.A. mill goes dry...

I doubt they will make anything beyond a PhD. But they already have made something between a Masters and PhD. That's what a Ed.S degree is. Just make more flavors of it.
