The second article even shows that certain degrees are totally worth it, but the problem is we pitch "College, college, college" and not "valued skills"
As far as student loan debt:
The avg student loan debt is lower than the cost of the average new car, I think we will be ok.

Yep. Every day people walk into a new car dealership and borrow $35K to by a new car. It happens thousands of times a day. And they're usually screwed in the process. And yet, we really don't read a lot of stories about how new car loans are ruining people's lives and destroying the economy.

Whether or not college is worth it depends on your options if you don't go to college. If you compare me to someone who started on an assembly line the day I started college the assembly line worker wins by a mile especially in light of the fact my engineering career ended after less than 20 years but I didn't have that option. My option was minimum wage jobs or waiting tables and wasn't cute enough or flirty enough to make good tips. Even though I never break even compared to that assembly line worker I'm much better off than I would have been if I hadn't gone to college.
Whether it's worth it depends on your options with and without one. If you're going to get a useless degree, probably not. If you get a valuable degree, it's probably worth it.
One of these silly threads again. I'm just going to tell everyone that posts stuff like this that college is stupid and they need to tell everyone right now to not go.
The American economy is shifting away from manufacturing to service. There is an acknowledge educational deficit as Bachelor's and even Master's degrees increasingly become the minimum for entry level positions in decent paying jobs.
The American public better get on board the train before they are left behind.

Pursue an avenue in school that will lead to gainful employment. Do extensive research to see where demand is. Higher education can be the best investment in life if done correctly. The problem is many are ignorant and lazy, and do not do the research beforehand to see where the demand is. Graduating with 100K debt with a theater degree (or similar degree that has no demand) is not a smart investment. Yet plenty keep doing it over and over again thinking they are going to be an exception.
