Very cool. Would that be different from becoming a regular school counselor and getting an educational psych degree?
I think so. I want to work with children or adults with special needs and/or disabilities. I don't want to be a school counselor in the therapy sense. The programs I'm looking at have MSW/ MPH or a concentration in leadership/macro. I would like to also maybe work in administration at a non-profit.
Adelphi has always been known for their strong social work and nursing programs. Historically, it always had a strong reputation and was the premiere major. Hunter also has a strong MSW program, at least by reputation. Columbia, of course, offers more prestige and I assume is more expensive. I am sure that their reputation for the MPH must be high. NYU also has a strong reputation for MSW and certainly MPH, and of course, a high price tag, maybe even higher than Columbia. Don't know about Fordham for MSW. Are you only looking at NYC or also the surrounding area? If so and you are considering Adelphi, then you should also check out Hofstra.

You can get a degree in school counseling and get state certification like a teacher, a degree in (educational)psych and a degree in MSW. All different programs and all have opportunities to work in public schools.

Sounds like you want to work in a nonprofit like AHRC.
I am in the process of completing applications for the fall 2017 semester. I am located in NY. I want to stay in NY for this.
Has anyone gone to any of the following schools for their MSW or their MPH?: Fordham, NYU, Columbia, Adelphi and Hunter??
Please let me know if you went; what you enjoyed about the program or what you were disappointed in.
Thank you!!
Ahhhh...my old turf. I have experience in the NY area. And in social work and related fields - in advising clients.
You have some sound schools there, however, I would avoid Adephi University at all costs (except the Dernher School of Psychology)
Adelphi is over priced and over rated. They have done silly things that have diminished their local reputation - Here is one - Calling Harvard College "the Adelphi of New Enw England".
That was so silly.
I would add Stony Brook University - part of the State University of NY at Stony Brook. (SUNY) Great rep. Unquestionable academics - and highly regarded.
I have other suggestions. Adelphi makes students work as though they are at a "top notch school". You are not.
They are also not cheap.
DM me if you want for more NYC area schools of Social Work.
